Types of Life Coaching

The term “life coaching” is actually an umbrella term.

It’s super broad, which is why it can be confusing or overwhelming. So this week, I thought I would just provide a little bit of clarity for you!

There are several categories in the life coaching sphere; that simply means is that there are all kinds of life coaches out there, and we all specify what we specialize in. This is much more useful than having a crap ton of life coaches who all do the exact same thing! This way, coaches are able to connect with clients who need what they specifically have training and experience in.

It’s kind of like this: when you’re sick or injured, you go to your general practitioner or family doctor, right? They will then diagnose you, and either help you themselves, or they will refer you to a specialist. If you injured your foot, you go to a podiatrist. If you’re having autoimmune symptoms, you go to a rheumatologist. If you have severe joint problems, you may go to an orthopedic surgeon.

Here is a quick list of different specialties I’ve seen from life coaches.

This is certainly not exhaustive, but it should at least give you a good idea:

  • Business

  • Leadership

  • Religion/Spirituality

  • Relationship

  • Divorce

  • Executive/Corporate

  • Health (Mental or Physical)

  • Financial

  • Sports

  • Wellness

  • Mindfulness

  • Confidence

  • Career

  • Performance

  • Creativity

  • Mindset

  • Law of Attraction

  • Grief/Stress

  • Weight Loss

  • Organizational

  • Sales/Marketing

And even within each of those categories there are even more specific options as well. Isn’t that so cool?? I would bet that if you feel that you have a very specific challenge, you could find a coach who specializes in that thing. Of course, if you’re not even sure what kind of coach you would do best with, the best option is just to find any coach that resonates with you, and just START!

And on that note – if you really resonate with a particular coach, and they market themselves as a relationship expert, but you need more guidance with your health…it’s not going to hurt at all to ask them if that’s something they can help you with. Either they will be confident that they can coach you in that category, or they will be able to refer you to a coach they believe you will feel more comfortable with.

It can be super easy to get overwhelmed with all of these choices; decision fatigue is a real thing! So the best thing is to just start somewhere.

I want to share with you one other aspect of life coaching categories.

There are two:

Each coach may approach these options in countless ways, but those are the two ways that coaching is done. Private coaching can be done in person, through video chat, or phone call; group coaching can also be done in person, via group video calls, facilitated through a paid Facebook group, or a private online platform. Group coaching does not offer the same amount of personalization as one on one coaching, but is generally a more affordable option.

As for myself, I currently run my private coaching via video calls; I offer a free initial clarity call, which allows you and I to collaborate and clarify what it is you’re looking for. I then create a personalized plan that will greatly reduce resistance, and help you reach whatever goal(s) you’re working toward.

At the time of writing this, my group coaching is not yet available. However, it is in the plans for 2020, and my goal is to have it up and running by my birthday (July 2), if not sooner. Go sign up here to receive updates if that’s something you’d like to know more about it.

I am currently an active participant in a group coaching program, and it has been immensely helpful for my mental health, productivity, and confidence, so I am very excited to be able to offer group coaching as an option for you as well!

And if you’re new here, and unfamiliar with my specialty, I’ll give you the short and sweet version: I specialize in guiding women (typically, but not exclusively, moms) to overcome mental blocks regarding their health (mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual).

Does this sound like something you need? Or do you know someone else who could use this kind of guidance? Go here to book your free clarity call with me, and I’ll help you see if we are a good fit to work together. And if you’re reading this, I have a hunch that we almost definitely are.

Have an amazing week, friend! Talk soon!
